My name is Kate, and I am a soon to be 40-year-old mother of 3 girls. I have had my fair share of postpartum emotions, both physically & mentally, trying to navigate them as holistically as possible, but I was never pointed in the direction I am in today. How I yearn to be able to go back time and give myself this opportunity. Instead, I am here to help support you in your postpartum & beyond.
After many years of delving in natural remedies, discovering my passion for women’s health and support I became a doula. Giving up 25 + years in the pharmacy industry. This opened up a whole new world for me! Researching the art of placenta encapsulation & wanting to be able to help other women support their postpartum. After lots of research and firsthand experiences with my wonder clients realised who had preached to me the wonderful outcomes of consuming their placentas! It’s hard to dismiss when so many women swear by it, I only wish I had experienced this firsthand myself…. maybe it’s not too late.
How can I not as a doula not provide my mothers to experience all the benefits their placentas have to offer. Our ancestors used to honor their placentas via burial, placement in a specific location or consume it. Let’s bring back our sacred traditions, let’s honor what our bodies can do as women. If our placentas can create life and nutrients to our babies imagine what it can do for us.

What is placenta encapsulation
Placenta encapsulation is one of the most talked about postpartum wellness practices and for good reason. The process involves dehydrating and grinding the placenta into a fine powder, which is then placed into capsules for consumption. This allows mothers to ingest their placenta over a period of time, often in the first 6 weeks following birth.

TCM placenta encapsulation is inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine. This method of preparation focuses on increasing its warming properties. It involves cleansing the placenta, gently steaming it with a combination of herbs such as fresh lemon, ginger and Chilli, these herbs are known as warming herbs & a modern twist on the TCM method. The placenta is then dehydrated before it is ground into powder and placed into capsules. This process cleanses your placenta, dehydrate and ground your placenta into dust / powder. The placenta dust package is a beautiful way to honour your placenta for all it has done nourishing your baby. This option can be used in a few ways! Sprinkle into a smoothie or meal for yourself (common for those women who struggle to swallow capsules) - dosage will be guided.
Or this can be for women who do not want to consume their placenta but also do not want to leave it behind. Spread the dust in your garden at home or a sacred place or save it for when you feel ready.
This can be a beautiful release if you suffered a traumatic birth, a difficult pregnancy, a pregnancy or baby loss or you just want to honour the journey.

This placenta storage kit has been created for a number of reasons
Support families birthing at Gold Coast University (highly recommended), as they do not allow patients to store their placentas in the ward fridge.
Those that are time poor - your kits are ready to go after you have frozen your cooling materials.
Those that prefer to be very organised and know they are following the proper protocols.
Those who like to keep a close eye on their placenta (not leaving the room to be taken to the ward fridge)

You will be required to collect this kit from Nerang lab location at around 37 weeks to ensure you are well prepared.

Express post does not always mean next day delivery. Based on your location I will advise you on approximate delivery time as I get the information off Australian post staff. I do try to avoid postage on a Friday if possible.

Step 01.
Click the book now button and complete the booking form in which you will receive an email reply to any questions or queries I may have. Along with details of your individual pick up process. Next an invoice will be emailed where you can choose to pay a deposit ($100) or payment in full. Remainder of payment will be due at 38 weeks gestation. All services are excluding GST, this will be added at the end on your invoice. If you are a last-minute booking e.g. you have birthed, you are in labour or have a planned c-section booked in the next few days.
Please ensure once you have sent in a submission you do follow up with replies via email as at time extra information will be required. Check you spam or junk! Unfortunately, I cannot chase up everyone.
Notify your healthcare providers of your decision to keep your placenta, they will usually provide a container that will need to have your UR sticker on it. It is always good to have a backup container; I will advise if your birthing location is one of those.
Sign placenta release for that the hospital will provide you with.
If you do not hire a storage kit, take a medium sized cooler box and x4 ice packs or fresh ice to your birth. *Placenta must be on ice within 1 -2 hours after birth. Any longer and this voids your chances to encapsulate. As the placenta gets to room temperature bacteria may begin growing making this unsafe for consumption.
Please NOTE: Gold Coast Uni Hospital no longer prove ice for patients to keep their placenta cold in. There is a service station across the road, or the Woolworths nearby may have ice.

Text when you have birthed your placenta and it is packed and ready to be collected. Day or night. I will get back to you at my earliest convenience.
I will then provide you an ETA I will get to you. If you will be self-transporting your placenta to me via a support, please ensure it is in a cooler box with ice bricks or ice. Placenta must be refrigerated within 1-2 hrs. and must be delivered to me with 24/ 48hrs post birth. Must be kept in the fridge during that time or frozen.
Most hospitals I will not need to see you so I will liase with hospital staff.
Please inform me straight away if your placenta needs to go to pathology. Usually, they only need a small amount, and you can keep the rest but if the full placenta is taken you will unfortunately be unable to encapsulate as it’s at risk of contamination and I will recommend the placenta dust package instead or planting. If the piece is taken for testing, I will pick up or accept your placenta and once results have come in, we can go from there.
NOTE: some hospitals may not be able to refrigerate your placenta, please enquire ahead of time or have a support take it home immediately to refrigerate.

Once your placenta has been processed and is ready for drop off or pick up, I will text you.
It is important to note placenta encapsulation goes through a process and has its steps. We cannot rush this. If you are having a cream, tincture made please note this will take a little bit of extra time.
NOTE: As nature takes it course so do births and at times I will have more than one at a time. I will process in order I have received them and follow my safe protocol of one in one out. At no time will multiple placentas be processed at the one time. This is a strict rule to avoid BPP and any contamination. I will notify you of any extra wait times.
